The Nature Photo Weekend at Grand Father Mountain is one of North Carolinas Photography Hidden Gems. Many people are unaware of this workshop/lecture/photo contest/weekend/what have you. The history of Grand Father mountain is better described on their website. This is the kind of place that if you take a bad shot while on the grounds, you truly are a bad photographer. This place is beautiful and has many places to go to make wonderful images. The Photo Weekends has been ran by Don Nelson and his Boys. They put on a great show. Typically there are 3-4 guest speakers and then the photo contest. The contest alone is worth going and spending the weekend. You will see some wonderful work.
April First is when tickets open up and go on sale. They are $115 per person plus some other fees. That my friends is a steal. Here is why. Tony Sweet is one of the guest speakers. When Tony Sweet was here a month or so ago, I had the chance to see him. I learned or was reminded of stuff I should be doing in my photography in just the first 2 hours. I was blown away. So worth the money.
Looking through the work of the other guest speakers, i was quite impressed as well. I do not know them personally, but they can all make wonderful images. Also If the Nelsons pick them to speak they must be pretty good. Oh and any one that wants to follow Tony on the speaking schedule, is brave and must be a wonderful photographer. HAHAHAHA.
Please go visit the Grand Father Mountains Nature Photo Weekends site for full details. Cruz around the rest of the site so you can go back later and take the kids. Go show the guest speakers some love by checking out their personal websites and or blogs. Most of all, Go get motivated to get out and make wonderful images, Spring is around the corner and it is going to be a beautiful one!
