More Strobie Light Mods

Today is gonna be a picture blog today, well sorta.  This morning i was very bored and it was a bit slow, so i took the time to play with a few additional light modifiers that we have in the store.  I have my favorite, and many of you all know that it is the Westcott 28″ Apollo.  But it is a bit big and is not the most mobile lighting modifier.  There are many others that are way more portable.

First up is from the Honl line.  I played with the 1/4 grid and 1/8 grid.  They both are a great way to localize your light on to your subject.  You get a bit of diffusion that is more focused than not grid at all.  The key piece in this line is the speed strap, to wich the whole line of modifiers will attach.

Next was from Lumiquest.  This bunch is the old man on the block.  they were the first in the game.  Even before the term “Strobist” was being thrown around.  Plus I heard from David Hobby himself he uses Lumiquest.  Specifically the Softbox III.  Joe McNally likes the Lumiquest Softbox LTP.  I have no idea what the LTP stands for, but all i know is it does make beautiful light.     So while i was helping a customer, David picked out the snoot from Lumiquest.  Some what like the grids it also i s wonderful way to localize your light.  Be very selective on what you want to be lit.

Interfit has been in the strobist market for a few years now.  They have an entire line called strobies just for speedlites and flashes.  The Strobies Portabox is roughly an 8×10 box that is very easy to attach to a speedlite.  They also have also have a snoot.    That is a 5″ round small softbox that is pretty small and compact.

The last toy I played with was from Orbis.  The Orbis ringflash is my favorite that i played with today.  Who does not like a ring flash?  It gives off an eerie awesomely cool light, with a brilliantly soft shadow. Here are my results, you can see by the amount of pics that i had the most fun with it today.

All of the toys are in stock, so come bring your camera and flash and come play.  Let us give you some tips and advice on how to use them and have some fun!

  1. I believe LTP is short for LapToP, because it’s about the size of a laptop, and can thus fit in the laptop packet of your camera bag (if you are so equipped).
